After deciding to do the Great Gatsby as my book I looked into 1920's architecture and features of this architecture that I could apply to my design. The era was very flamboyant and extroverted with clear attention to detail. I like the geometrical patterns and uniformity of design but I'd still like to keep some areas minimal in my building. I also want to have a lot of light on show.
In order to enable as much light as possible into the building I want to have plenty of windows and glass façade's. I think I'll design the windows with a border similar to the patterns and geometrical designs you find on typical 20's Art Deco buildings. One building I looked further into was the late 1920's home for silent film actor Ramon Novarro. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son and incorporates plenty of light but still has attention to detail and simplistic colours yet shows flamboyance. The main focus I think for many rooms is the light and maintaining a constant theme that matches both clients. |
